Run with Rich 2023 successfully returns to Nottingham

The Foundation successfully delivered their second ever Run with Rich on Sunday 18 June at Holme Pierrepont Country Park in Nottingham, with 450 people taking part – their way.

The event included an accessible 5km and 1 mile sensory course, designed so that anyone can take part in whatever way they wanted, whether that be walking, pushing, running, jogging or on a skateboard.

The day started off with a few spots of rain, but the sun soon fought its way through the clouds to provide the participants, volunteers and supporters with the perfect setting to engage with the event.

The atmosphere was enhanced by a vibrant event village, which was bought to life at 9.30am by Drumba, who got big groups of eager participants warming up by drumming to music. It continued to thrive with displays from Dako Flying Angels and Chesterfield Boccia Club.

Before each race all of the participants took part in a warm up with a team of instructors from Pure Gym, who provided different adapted versions of exercises for people who needed them. Richard Whitehead then joined in with each wave of the 5km and 1 mile courses, running with them and encouraging participants on their way.

There were lots of smiles and determined faces as people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds made it around the courses in whatever way worked best for them, with many achieving their own personal goals beside the lake at Holme Pierrepont.

“Another great Run with Rich 5km completed! This is such a great event that really highlights the work that the Foundation does for accessible sport.”

Everyone attending also had the opportunity to have a go at canoeing, get their face painted, leave a motivational message on a Nissan car or visit a dedicated quiet space with one of our partners – Footprints. Other organisations that kindly supported the day, included – Serco, Wish Upon a Star, The LD Physio, Delichon, Decathlon and Boots.

The final word on Run with Rich 2023 has to go to our President, Richard Whitehead:

“Run with Rich 2023 was a powerful event on 18th June, which provided the opportunity for people with disabilities of all levels to participate on as level a playing field as their non-disabled counterparts. Smiles were seen all around the 5km loop of Holme Pierrepont and a special moment was seeing young participants reaching their goals in the 1 mile sensory run, with loud cheers from the spectators and great support from the volunteers. We all came together for one action, which was inclusivity and every person that took part in the event came away with a greater feeling of social responsibility to employ that action in their lives moving forwards.”
