London Marathon success!

On Sunday 23rd April, our founder Richard Whitehead and seven intrepid runners completed the 2023 London Marathon. The wet and cold conditions made the course particularly hazardous in places, but despite a couple of slips Richard battled the elements to complete his 77th marathon, this time using his Ossur running blades, with their unique cherry blossom design inspired by Nissan’s Japanese heritage.

Richard’s inclusive mindset never switches off and despite being only metres from the finish line, he stopped to help a fellow runner who was on very shaky legs from fatigue, embodying the mantra of ‘leave nobody behind’. The clip of Richard stopping has now gone viral with thousands of views across social media.

Our seven runners, Atul, Ben, Lorna, Lucy, Nick, Robert and Steve all completed the race successfully and thoroughly enjoyed the experience of running through the streets of London. We are absolutely thrilled to announce that between them they raised a magnificent £10,000 to help support the work of the Foundation and we will be announcing in the coming weeks where we will be using the funds. There is still time to top up their total but donating here.

On the day, one of our Nissan Possibilities Project participants Walid and Paul our project manager, joined Richard as guests of Nissan, to celebrate with the runners as they crossed the finish line.

We’d like to offer our thanks and congratulations to all our runners and can’t wait to see you at future events representing the Foundation.

If you would like to run for The Richard Whitehead Foundation, we have a number of places available at different events, including the Great Run Series of events, or at an event local to you, please get in touch to register your interest - charity@whitehead.foundation
